The first few days in Barcelona have been interesting. This city is beautiful and the architecture is amazing. First day here, I get out of the airport building up confidence that I know more Spanish than I think. I go out and the first person that talks to me I have no idea what he said. Then I had the awkward 30 second silent pause, a moment of panic and then realized he wasn’t speaking Spanish. Most locals here mix Spanish and Catalan also the Spanish itself if very different. Understanding things is a bit of a struggle but the hope is that I will learn soon (fingers crossed). Still a little jet lagged, trying to get rest and get accustomed to the time change. People seem very nice even though I don’t completely understand what they are saying.
